The international space station(ISS) will cease to operate by 2031, according to NASA
The ISS
It is a low-orbit spacecraft that serves as base for space studies. it started operations in 1998 (on my birth year 😉)
Decommissioning
1: The spacecraft will start re-entry in january 2031.
2: It will target a region on earth known as South Pacific Oceanic Uninhabited Area (SPOUA), also known as Point Nemo
Point Nemo
1: Point Nemo is known as the space graveyard, and loacted in South-Pacific Ocean.
2: Is is suitable for dumping as it is located about 2,700 km away from anu land.
Future space studies
1: Private sector is expected to develop commercial low-earth orbit destinations
2: It will save NASA billions of dollars which it can utillize for deep-space studies.
Achievements on ISS
1: The fifth state of matter called Bose-Einstein Condensate was produced. 😮
2: Advanced water purification and crop production have been done.
