Abstract - The significant advances of technology in the ICT sector the last decades with the most important the improvements on the internet services and virtualization techniques have led to the emergence of several computing paradigms, with the most recent cloud computing. There are several major international cloud service providers which deliver a variety of cloud services and solutions to individuals or companies. As a result, more and more companies are moving to the cloud leading to a growth of cloud services market. Cloud technologies can offer various benefits to organizations but at the same time there are risks and challenges associated with this term. This paper clearly states about cloud technology and its implications for entrepreneurship.
Introduction
Cloud Computing is the delivery of computing services such as servers, storage, databases, networking, software, analytics, intelligence, and more, over the Cloud (Internet). Cloud Computing provides an alternative to the on-premises datacentre. With an on-premises datacentre, we have to manage everything, such as purchasing and installing hardware, virtualization, installing the operating system, and any other required applications, setting up the network, configuring the firewall, and setting up storage for data. After doing all the set-up, we become responsible for maintaining it through its entire lifecycle. But if we choose Cloud Computing, a cloud vendor is responsible for the hardware purchase and maintenance. They also provide a wide variety of software and platform as a service. We can take any required services on rent. The cloud computing services will be charged based on usage.
Cloud computing deployment models: Cloud computing has different deployment models illustrated by NIST (National Institute of Standards and Technology).
- The public cloud is available to the public through a service provider like Amazon, IBM, Dell, while users have no control over the infrastructure and in this model rises the issue of security and privacy.
- The private cloud is dedicated to a particular entity or organization where the organization can host their applications and data and isn’t shared whether hosted on premise or externally.
- The hybrid cloud as the name suggests is a combination or a composition of both augmenting a private cloud with the resources of a public cloud requiring on premise and external resources.
- Community cloud where the cloud infrastructure is shared by several organizations in a specific community with shared needs or concerns.
Advantages & Disadvantages of Cloud Computing
As we all know that Cloud computing is trending technology. Almost every company switched their services on the cloud to rise the company growth.
Here, we are going to discuss some important advantages of Cloud Computing-
1) Back-up and restore data - Once the data is stored in the cloud, it is easier to get back-up and restore that data using the cloud.
2) Improved collaboration - Cloud applications improve collaboration by allowing groups of people to quickly and easily share information in the cloud via shared storage.
3) Excellent accessibility - Cloud allows us to quickly and easily access store information anywhere, anytime in the whole world, using an internet connection. An internet cloud infrastructure increases organization productivity and efficiency by ensuring that our data is always accessible.
4) Low maintenance cost - Cloud computing reduces both hardware and software maintenance costs for organizations.
5) Mobility - Cloud computing allows us to easily access all cloud data via mobile.
6) Unlimited storage capacity - Cloud offers us a huge amount of storing capacity for storing our important data such as documents, images, audio, video, etc. in one place.
7) Data security - Data security is one of the biggest advantages of cloud computing. Cloud offers many advanced features related to security and ensures that data is securely stored and handled.
A list of the disadvantage of cloud computing is given below –
1) Internet Connectivity - As you know, in cloud computing, every data (image, audio, video, etc.) is stored on the cloud, and we access these data through the cloud by using the internet connection. If you do not have good internet connectivity, you cannot access these data. However, we have no any other way to access data from the cloud.
2) Vendor lock-in - Vendor lock-in is the biggest disadvantage of cloud computing. Organizations may face problems when transferring their services from one vendor to another. As different vendors provide different platforms, that can cause difficulty moving from one cloud to another.
3) Limited Control - As we know, cloud infrastructure is completely owned, managed, and monitored by the service provider, so the cloud users have less control over the function and execution of services within a cloud infrastructure.
4) Security - Although cloud service providers implement the best security standards to store important information. But, before adopting cloud technology, you should be aware that you will be sending all your organization's sensitive information to a third party, i.e., a cloud computing service provider. While sending the data on the cloud, there may be a chance that your organization's information is hacked by Hackers.
Types of Cloud Services
- Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS): In IaaS, we can rent IT infrastructures like servers and virtual machines (VMs), storage, networks, operating systems from a cloud service vendor. We can create VM running Windows or Linux and install anything we want on it. Using IaaS, we don’t need to care about the hardware or virtualization software, but other than that, we do have to manage everything else. Using IaaS, we get maximum flexibility, but still, we need to put more effort into maintenance.
- Platform as a Service (PaaS): This service provides an on-demand environment for developing, testing, delivering, and managing software applications. The developer is responsible for the application, and the PaaS vendor provides the ability to deploy and run it. Using PaaS, the flexibility gets reduce, but the management of the environment is taken care of by the cloud vendors.
- Software as a Service (SaaS): It provides a centrally hosted and managed software services to the end-users. It delivers software over the internet, on-demand, and typically on a subscription basis. E.g., Microsoft One Drive, Dropbox, WordPress, Office 365, and Amazon Kindle. SaaS is used to minimize the operational cost to the maximum extent.
Implications of Cloud Technology on Entrepreneurship
Cloud computing is changing the way we work and communicate. Cloud technologies are creating a more flexible work environment, allowing businesses to grow without investing in equipment or data centers. Cloud solutions are scalable and adaptable to a business's needs, from small startups to Fortune 500 companies. The cloud is also driving innovation in marketing and customer service, making it easy for businesses of any size to reach customers on any device using tools such as chatbots, virtual agents and analytics dashboards.
- Cloud Computing Is Changing The Way We Work And Communicate - Cloud computing is a way of accessing software and services. It's changing the way we work and communicate, live, do business and learn. Cloud computing means using applications hosted on the internet rather than installed on your computer at home or work.
- Cloud Technologies Are Creating A More Flexible Work Environment - Cloud technologies are creating a more flexible work environment that is important for entrepreneurs. These technologies reduce the need for an on-site office, allowing you to work from any location, including your home or mobile device. If you prefer not to stay in one place for long periods of time, cloud technology lets you move around freely without having to worry about maintaining your own infrastructure or paying for expensive space leases.
- Businesses Of All Sizes Can Benefit From Cloud Technologies - Cloud solutions are often more scalable and adaptable to a business's needs than traditional solutions. Cloud products make it easy for businesses to reach their customers, allowing them to easily engage with those customers without having to worry about the infrastructure necessary for doing so. Cloud technology is driving innovation in marketing, customer service, and other areas of business. Cloud-based software allows entrepreneurs around the world to collaborate with each other on projects from across many different industries and at various stages of development.
- Cloud Solutions Are Scalable And Adaptable - Cloud solutions are scalable and adaptable to a business's needs. Businesses can easily scale up or down their use of all IT services as needed, which makes it easy to expand their operations, especially if they're an online-based company. Cloud solutions are also flexible: they can be adapted to suit the needs of each business. Another benefit of cloud computing is that it allows you to access your data remotely from anywhere in the world at any time. This means that if you need technical support while on vacation, your IT team will be able to help you fix any problems quickly and easily by logging into your account remotely via a secure connection—all without having to worry about being distracted by other tasks or taking time away from important family activities! A final advantage of cloud computing is that it requires minimal maintenance on behalf of the user because updates simply occur automatically; this allows businesses with limited staff resources (such as startups) more time for other things such as growing their businesses!
- Cloud Technology Is Driving Innovation In Marketing - Cloud technology is driving innovation in marketing and customer service. It's easier to build and maintain a website, thanks to cloud hosting providers like Amazon Web Services (AWS). Cloud-based applications can be built much faster than before, which means businesses have more time to focus on their core competencies. And once your website is up, it's easy to keep it fresh with new content through regular updates or social media integration. This helps you stay relevant to your customers' needs—and keep them coming back for more!
- Cloud Is Helping Entrepreneurs Collaborate - Cloud technology can help entrepreneurs collaborate with each other in ways that would not be possible before. For example, it is now much easier for entrepreneurs to share ideas and files with each other. Previously, this type of collaboration was only possible through more traditional means like email or telephone calls. With cloud computing and the Internet, sharing these types of files and documents has become much easier than ever before and it is becoming easier all the time as more people adopt this technology into their lives.
- With Better Communication Comes Better Ideas - Cloud computing has the power to help you run your business in a new and improved way. With better communication comes better ideas, productivity, and results for your business. Cloud computing provides businesses with greater access to data from anywhere at any time, and this can lead to many benefits for entrepreneurs. With cloud technology, it’s easier than ever before to set up teams across borders or even continents without worrying about the costs involved with setting up an office in another country or having to hire staff there who may be unfamiliar with local customs or laws. If you have employees overseas then using cloud computing will allow them to access information without needing their own expensive hardware setup on-site – saving money while also allowing them flexibility around where they work from (and if they want days off).
Conclusion
In the end, it’s up to you. Cloud computing has many benefits that can help your business grow and reach its full potential. But don’t take our word for it! Try it out for yourself; begin by looking at some of the cloud-based solutions available in your area or industry. It’s never been easier to start a business than now.
