It is a known fact that how Indians are associated with food. Food in India is not just about eating to fill our stomachs but it has emotions associated with it. India being a country of diverse culture and food holds an important place in every culture. We Indians love eating and thus we have variety of dishes that are famous in India and have also traveled the world, also we have different cuisines from across the world that are happily accepted and enjoyed by Indians. But do you know that some of the dishes that are famous and inculcated into our diet are not actually originated in India but are taken from the world. Let’s have a look on some of such dishes
  1. Samosas:

Yes the samosas also known as sambusak which has spicy potato filling and which is been served with different chutneys that enhances the flavor of the dish is a commonly sold on the streets in every corner of India was actually invented by Arab invaders in 10th century. Arabs use to have meat filling into it. Samosa was adapted by Indians which turned out to be a lip smacking vegetarian dish eventually. Still in Middle East Samosas are prepared using meat filling.

2. Sambar:

Sambar also known as sambhar, saambaar or saambhar which is served with almost all south Indian dishes is considered to be the item that has been originated from south India but many few know that it was actually invented in Maharashtra by the Maratha ruler Chatrapati  Sambhaji Maharaj when he ended putting up tamarind in the daal soup when the chef was not around. Sambhar is a stew made up of various daals and vegetables and cooked with different spices and tamarind broth.

       3.Daal Chawal

Again rice is considered to be the staple food of most of the areas of India and daal chawal is something that we always can fall back on and is favorite of most of us but even daal chawal combination  is not invented by India but Nepal. Here the rice is steam cooked and the daal is made using different lentils and mild spices and this combination is mostly served piping hot with ghee, papad and achaar.

4. Gulab Jamun

Most common sweet dish and available in any corner of the country and has become supreme part of offerings that are been done this days .Originally named as luqmat-al-qadi was actually invented in Persia now known as Iran and brought to India by  Central Asian Turkic invaders. It is been claimed that gulab jamun was accidently iveneted by the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan's personal chef. The basic idea behind the sweet been coined the name “gulab jamun” was “gulab” means rose syrup and ‘jamun” refers to the black plum which is an Indian fruit. The jamuns are milk solids usually made of khoya and then dipped into sugar syrup which has flavor of gulab. With time there are various successful experiments that are been done for commercial purpose with this dish and now we have variety of gulab jamuns available.

  1. Rajma

Everyone has heard about Rajma Chawal and many of them must have also had this fabulous combination. But how many of you’ll knew that rajma is not actually from India????Rajma also known as kidney beans has travelled a lot before coming to India originally from Mexico was taken to Europe by Portuguese and later was brought to India by it south-western coast. Now rajma is grown in different parts of India but the once grown in the Rajma of Chinta Valley in Doda district, of Bhaderwah of Jammu are said to be famous due to its small size and sweeter taste.

  1. Jalebi:

Imagine the hot and cold combination of rabri and jalebi where cold rabri is been poured on hot, crispy jabeli, it feels like heaven in the mouth but gain jalebi has got its origin from Middle East where is referred as zulbia. This sweet is not only available in and ruling the sweets territory in India but it is also been loved in African countries as well.

  1. Biryanis:

Moreover one more favorites on the list biryani  though the origin is unclear many believe that it was been invented in Persia during the Mughal Empire and  they bought the biryani to India. Initially made with apices and meat today we have various types of biryani that are been served for vegetarians as well as non-vegetarians. Not to forget the three major cities of India namely Lucknow, Kolkata and Hyderabad who are known for their best served biryani.

Shocked!!!!!!!Aren’t You????? Origin of dishes really don’t matter as earlier said Indians and food have different relation beyond just eating but having knowledge about what we eat is equally important. Cause ultimately: We live to eat and eat to live So Enjoy Eating people And if you know any more such dishes feel free to share in comment section.
